Trek to OshKosh 2010

I created a map so that we could VISUALLY see where people will be driving or flying from so we might be able to coordinate and link up.

In this article I give instructions but if they are confusing see my youtube video here:
Trek to OshKosh 2010 map instructions

If you are going to OshKosh in 2010, add a placemark on this map (See below for info) from where you are leaving. Ensure to note whether you are flying or driving. Please format your title like this "Eric Marenyi (Flying) Holly Ridge, NC". In your description you can add more details like your email, alternate plans, departing day, or what aircraft you will be flying.

Here is the map:
Trek to OshKosh 2010 map

The EDIT button will show but you do have to sign in to add a point (registration is free).

If after you sign in you don't see the the edit button, make sure you are on the page that says MY MAPS in the upper left, you will then see the map under 'Created by others' in the left-hand navigation, you should see the Edit button in the upper right.

To add a placemark to the map, navigate to where you will be departing from then click on EDIT. You can then go on to the right side of the screen and into the map, right click, and "add a placemark". Mac users must Control Click to get the pop-up menu. If you have any issues creating a palcemark, send me an email off list and I will add it for you. Just be sure to include the information. You can change your icon from the default blue drop to an airplane or a car to further simplify the map overview.
Please feel free to share this with other lists of similar speed and capability aircraft, ultralights, and LSA's (Rans/Excalibur/Kolb/Titan/Quicksilver/etc).

Thanks everyone, hopefully it will be used.

Any questions post a comment.

I FLEW MY OWN PLANE!

After YEARS without a plane, I FINALLY got my own plane up in the air SOLO. We (Gerry and I) started the day both flying in it together. After some radio problems were fixed Gerry told me to go fast taxi it and if it feels like it wants to fly just idle back. Well it did want to fly even though I was going about 20mph slower than when we where dual. It started to lift off the runway so I throttled it back and floated it back down (only got about 5 feet off the ground). Gerry called me on the radio and said looked good that was exactly what he wanted to see me be able to do. He asked me to come back and cut the engine. I did that and he asked how I felt. I felt confident and he said go for it. I did as he asked and got 4253G off the ground and in to the pattern. It was much more bumpy at 1000 ft than it was on the ground so I stayed close. I brought it in for a landing and taxied back for a warm congratulations from Gerry and Melvin (the Surf City police officer who was watching). I took it back up and spend a little more time in the air. I got it back down and taxied it in and put the covers on. In all the excitement I forgot to have anyone take a picture so here are some from when it was covered before I left.

It flies!

Well it was a great day! My instructor Gerry Baker did a thorough inspection of the plane and while there are some things that need replacing Gerry took it up! He started doing some taxiing and what I though was going to be a crow hop turned in to a flight around the field (and then some). It was great to see it off the ground but I must admit I was a bit jealous I was planted on the ground. Enjoy the pics of it. We will see if tomorrow is my lucky day!

Got it out to the Airport!

Well it has been a long time coming but I finally got my plane out of my garage and out to the Airport! It took all day between transporting the fuselage and wings on separate trips, bolting everything together, and putting the covers on. Thanks to my friend Brant who will probably never see this post but who helped me ALL DAY. It was nightfall by time I got it all done so I didn't get to fly it today. I will get to look it over and recheck all the bolts and electronics with fresh eyes before going through some other ground tests/taxiing before I reach for the skies. Please subscribe to be kept up to date. I will try and post more regularly now. Any suggestions on a name?

How Jason (My BFF) and I met...

It was beyond my better judgment to make the stop that brought us
together that fateful night. I was growing weary and my eyes where
beginning to feel heavy so I had to stop my vehicle at that remote rest
area. I fell in to a quick slumber only to be awaken abruptly by a man
in search of money in lieu of sexual favors. I was not interested and
kindly asked the man to leave. I noticed as he took a few steps back he
fell to his knees and began to cry. I cracked my window a little and
asked him if he needed any help. He began to scratch his face as if
being attacked by ants. He slowly responded that he was starving for he
had not ate solid food in more than 30 minutes, maybe 40. Feeling bad
for the man I offered him a ride to the nearest Wendy's. After he tied
the rope around my trailer hitch I began to drag him in to town. Once
he got there I stepped out of the vehicle and I noticed his knees where
bleeding through his ripped pants. I apologized relentlessly but he
assured me it was not the drag to town that caused it but a rumble with
some stray cats the he tussled with for food just minutes before we had
met. we shared a laugh and a romantic gaze at the well lit menu and a
cute red haired girl named wendy. There was a cashier named Ethan who
approached us and asked us what we would like to eat. Jason as I've
come to know him was so emotionally charged about the possibility of
getting food he announced that he would name his first born son after
him. Over our baconators we shared stories and more laughs. I promised
him from that moment on that I would pick him up from rehab every day
and drive him home to the shelter. This was over 3 years ago and we have grown closer since....

By the way, this was a joke and a rebuttal to his story of how we met (Which was a trend on facebook on valentines day).
